It started out as a high school job for Mike with a local sugarmaker and mentor, Dave, and Mike quickly found the love for maple syrup production. Mike started with a few hundred taps of his own and would take the sap to be boiled at a local sugar house. Every year as time and money would allow, Mike gradually expanded the number of taps of his own and continued to work for Dave. After Dave’s tragic passing, Mike’s passion grew even more and he knew he wanted to make this into something more than a hobby.
Maple syrup production (sugaring) also ran through Mara’s blood too and she grew to share Mike’s passion. Mara’s grandfather, the late Ellis Moser, and father, Douglas Moser owned and operated a sugar bush for many years along with their dairy farm. As Moserdale Dairy, LLC grew and became more demanding of the Moser family time, sugaring came to a stop. Snyder’s Sugar Shack now taps some of the same trees that were tapped by the Moser family many years ago.
